FIRMO Foundation Onlus (Italian Foundation for Research on Bone Diseases) is a unique example of a private non-profit organization that operates in the field of skeletal diseases.

These disorders affect millions of people in Italy alone, however, awareness and information regarding them are still too scarce, as are the funds allocated to research.

Since its institution, the 20th February 2016, FIRMO has set itself a series of ambitious and wide-ranging objectives, to bring together the best forces in the country to work on the problem of skeletal diseases, and to channel them into a unique synergistic action.

FIRMO acts in the field of information, training and research, following every strategic pathway to achieve its ambitious goal: eradicating bone diseases.

Thanks to an incessant flourishing of initiatives, in just a few years, FIRMO has achieved an important position in the panorama of the prevention and treatment of skeletal diseases, becoming a point of reference for patients, medical and scientific organizations, public health agencies, universities, researchers, and the industrial world.

Specifically, FIRMO pursues the following priority objectives:

  • raise national public awareness of the problem of bone diseases, spread the culture of bone health through targeted educational campaigns;
  • constitute a point of reference for patients and their families, and for patients’ associations;
  • update and improve knowledge of bone pathologies among researchers, clinicians and healthcare professionals;
  • facilitate the technological transfer of discoveries from basic research facilities to businesses;
  • attract and convey investments, resources, and talent, to promote innovative research in Italy;
  • directly conduct basic research in the field of cell biology and molecular genetics of bone pathologies, for the development of new treatment for skeletal diseases.
